1.1 Overview
Pulse Generators
Pulse generators represent a wide range of products from small OEM modules to benchtop instruments to circuits within a design. This tutorial will focus on bench pulse generators which provide an introduction to most of the terminology associated with timing.
Bench pulsers are test equipment which typically allow control of the pulse repetition rate, pulse width, pulse delay (from a internal or external trigger) and pulse amplitude. Advanced pulse generators allow rise time and fall time adjustments as well. Pulse generator outputs are typically TTL electrical signals, with adjustable amplitudes (in Volts) as a feature. Some pulse generators also provide optical outputs which mimic the properties of the electrical output.
